Like elsewhere in the world, the caves of Mizoram are associated with myths, legends and folktales and beckons caving enthusiasts to no end.
Khuangchera Puk
Situated in Ailawng near Reiek, about 30 kms from Aizawl in the west, there is a cave named after Khuangchera, the legendary Mizo warrior who lived in the late 19th century.
Khuangchera Puk is an ideal adventure sports ground because besides being easily accessible from Aizawl, it provides a variety of cave experiences like darkness, peculiar acoustics, specific odours, tactile interaction with earthly surfaces and others.

This cave is situated in Champhai district, 6.5 km north of Farkawn village. This cave is 9m in length. The main feature of the cave is a wooden box which holds about a cubic metre of densely packed and well preserved human bones. The bones are estimated to be three hundred years old, no precise explanation has yet been found as to the identities of the people and when and why they are placed here.
Tluangtea Puk
Located near Kawlkulh village in Champhai district approximately 194.0 kms from Aizwal, it is the second longest cave in Mizoram with a length of 119 m, its vertical range being 19 m deep. The cave site can be reached by driving for a few minutes along the road towards Pawlrang and by trekking for about 12 hrs on various overgrown footpaths and faint jungle trails. However, this cave is most likely to be accessible only in the dry season as there is great danger of it being filled with water during the rainy season.
Pukzing Puk
At Pukzing village area near Marpara in Western Mizoram about 188 km from Aizwal, is by far the biggest cave in the state with a width of about 300ft and a height of about 150 ft. This is an unexplored cave. The story goes that the cave was carved out of the hills by the legendary strong man Mualzavata by using only his hair pin.
Far Puk/Pine Cave
This cave is situated in Champhai district near Farkawn and Vaphai villages. This cave is actually a rock shelter consisting of an approximately 50m long ledge which is in the average of 1 to 2 m wide and situated halfway up and east facing cliff at a linear distance of 3 km north of Farkawn.
